On February 13, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI organized the "Technology Innovation Day" to mark its 92nd birthday. The day was primarily aimed at students from the Berlin-Brandenburg region and gave an overview of the Institute's current research work with lectures and laboratory tours.
Researchers from the Fraunhofer HHI introduced the Institute's diverse topics in 15 short presentations. They provided exciting insights into research fields such as optical transmission, optical components and sensors, wireless (5G) communication, immersive video technologies (e.g. AR/VR), video compression and Machine Learning.
During the breaks, the participants had the opportunity to talk to the speakers, see demonstrators of various research projects and take part in guided laboratory tours. This included, for example, the LiFi conference room at Einsteinufer, where data transmission via modelled light (Visible Light Communication) was explained.
The day was concluded with a performance by Stefan Verra, who is an internationally renowned expert on body language. Not called "A Master of Bodylanguage" by the press for nothing, he was able to captivate the audience dynamically and wittily with scientific backgrounds on body language. The Technology Innovation Day 2020 ended with an evening get-together.
