Shuttle2X
Shuttle2X investigates the safe use of automated shuttle vehicles in urban traffic, supported by vehicular and infrastructure networking through vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. The focus is on secure integration of V2X-based functions into the vehicle automation system.
Shuttle2X project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action - Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK), and the European Union.
Duration: July 2022 - June 2025
The Shuttle2X project aims to enhance the safe deployment of automated shuttle buses in urban traffic. It achieves this by integrating a robust vehicular communication and networking infrastructure into an adapted vehicle automation system. The development of vehicular networking functions follows a hybrid system concept, carefully addressing functional safety requirements to ensure reliable integration. Executed within three designated target areas surrounding the Baden-Württemberg autonomous driving test field, the project prioritizes open standards, modularity, data security, and adherence to the legal framework. Shuttle2X promotes the use of intelligent infrastructures, demonstrating the first step towards realizing automated operations on inner-city routes. The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute is contributing to the project with an implementation of 5G V2X Sidelink, compliant with 3GPP-Rel. 16 standard.
