6G-LICRIS
Liquid Crystal Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for 6G Mobile Networks.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
Duration: October 2022 - September 2025
6G-LICRIS aims to significantly increase the capacity, coverage and range of future 6G networks with minimal energy consumption through the use of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS). The focus is on liquid crystal-based RIS, where reconfigurability is achieved by controllable liquid crystals.
Fraunhofer HHI focuses on modeling the radio environment with RIS as well as their network integration and demonstration. One sub-goal is the development of a realistic RIS channel model based on systematic radio channel measurements. In conjunction with HHI simulation tools, it can then be used to evaluate integration concepts and learning-based estimation algorithms for the acquisition of channel state information (CSI) at link and system level. In this context, the HHI is investigating efficient, low-complexity methods that exploit the special properties of the radio channel. The final goal is to demonstrate an end-to-end transmission link using the RIS developed in the project.
