The "Digital Signal Processing" (DSP) group conducts research and development in the field of digital signal processing for optical communication systems. Development of novel algorithms is addressed from initial idea to validation in real-time digital circuits. The expertise of the DSP group covers all steps from algorithm design in Matlab©/C++ over hardware description (e.g. in VHDL) to FPGA-based validation in real time. Parts of our research are made available as IP Cores.
For experimental validation of algorithms in system environments, the DSP group cooperates closely with the other working groups in the department of Photonic Networks and Systems.
The main areas of expertise are novel algorithms for flexible transponders in optical wide area networks as well as for energy-efficient solutions in metro optical networks.

Software Solutions
We provide software solutions for secure, optimized networks, including real-time DSP, distributed learning (DLFi), and network automation. The VPItoolkit™ DSP Library enhances optical systems, while NOBS enables 6G observability. HHI also offers datasets for autonomous network research.
