Optical Tamper Protection (OTP-2) for PRS security modules (Complete 3D encapsulation with an optical seal for PRS Security Modules using sensory thin glass foils)
Funded by Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, Grant 50NP2402B
Duration: October 2024 – March 2026
The aim of this project is the continued development of a photonic technology to protect mobile, security-relevant, terrestrial satellite communication systems. The basic functionality and feasibility were demonstrated in a previous project. The aim of the current project is to provide authorized users with secure access to the European satellite navigation system Galileo and its “Public Regulated Service” (PRS). In collaboration with OHB System AG and four Fraunhofer Institutes (FHG-HHI, FHG-IIS, FHG-IPT, FHG-IZM), a complete three-dimensional encapsulation of the PRS security module is to be realized using sensory thin glass films. The thin glass films have a unique optical signature and thus enable a complete, forgery-proof sealing with the ability of tamper detection.
By combining the technological competencies of all partners, an innovative and secure technical solution for manipulation detection and prevention is developed, that meets the high protection requirements for PRS security modules.
