5G user forums

With the 5G user forums, Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD)  and Fraunhofer Society want to create a consortium for the second 5G expansion stage. It will address the development, deployment and implementation of 5G mm-wave technology for public and private networks in Germany and Europe along the entire value chain.

The user forums will begin with an online workshop series focusing on use case scenarios enabled by mm-wave 5G. Three online workshops on Smart City, Industry 4.0 and drones in agriculture are planned for 2021.

The format is aimed at: Communication network operators, 5G component manufacturers, module suppliers, system integrators, service and software providers, industrial users or campus network operators.

5G in the smart city

In August, the first 5G user forum will focus on use cases for mm-wave 5G in the municipal sector, using Smart City Berlin as an example. Sessions are planned on application of 5G in inner-city areas (campus networks), 5G in public spaces (e.g., for communication and security use cases), and 5G in the mobility and the supply sector.

The smart city user forum is organized by FMD, the federal state of Berlin and the regional Berlin Center for Digital Transformation .

Event schedule

The 5G user forum smart city will feature two one-day events with different focus topics and workshops on various use case scenarios. The events can be attended individually or on both days.
