Live Interactive PMSE Services
Co-funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi)
Duration: April 2018 – September 2020
The aim of the project is to improve the access and participation of rural areas in the creative, cultural and political operations of metropolises and vice versa.
LIPS focuses on an interactive linking of live events at different locations (e.g. musicians play together as an orchestra but in different locations). The Live interaction requires almost instantaneous networking and interaction of the audio and video systems used in event and production technology (PMSE). The ongoing technological convergence of production and distribution networks and the availability of new mobile communications and network technology (4G+ / 5G, Mobile Edge Cloud (MEC), Software Defined Networks (SDN)) provide new platforms and opportunities for the creative and cultural industries as well as for PMSE as an application. LIPS also provides solutions to enable people with limited mobility, who are unable to travel to a political or cultural event due to disability or illness to participate in a holistic and immersive way. In this way, LIPS makes significant contributions to inclusion and participation.
In this project, the Fraunhofer HHI focuses on the necessary radio interfaces for reliable and low-latency data transmission1, as well as the technological challenges that make the vision of LIPS a reality with the help of 4G+ /5G networks. Future 5G networks are investigated on behalf of their applicability and new technological concepts are developed for implementation. Here the Fraunhofer HHI focuses on the lowest layers of radio transmission and contributes the latest research findings to the application, which the Fraunhofer HHI has already successfully demonstrated in the PMSE-xG project.2
