The focus of the collaborative research project CONDOR lies on investigating network architectures, technologies and management functions for cost-efficient realization and highest availability of the optical infrastructure in heterogeneous open-access networks in metro and access scenarios. This includes for example networks for the residential and business market and optical backhauling solutions for wireless networks.
Our group contributes to this project essential background information such as required data rates and latencies in future mobile networks based on the LTE-Advanced standard where we also consider the use of advanced interference mitigation techniques such as coordinated multipoint (CoMP) having significant impact onto the backhaul network. We consider feeder and signaling traffic and discuss efficient network architectures for realizing them. Moreover, we quantify the performance degradation in the mobile network as a function of the backhaul delay and consider proactive techniques minimizing them.
