Dr. rer. nat. Wojciech Samek, Head of Machine Learning Group at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, was elected as chairman of the Working Group “Data Formats & ML Technologies” at the meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group “Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G”.
The ITU (International Telecommunication Union), a specialized agency of the United Nations with headquarters in Geneva, coordinates the frequency utilisation on a global scale and supports the development and alignment of technical standards worldwide. The ITU is active in areas including broadband Internet, latest-generation wireless technologies, radio astronomy, convergence in fixed-mobile phone, Internet access, next-generation networks and others.
The ITU-T (Telecommunication Standardization Sector) focuses mainly on standardization of global telecommunications. The Study Groups of the ITU-T assemble experts from around the world to develop international standards, which act as defining elements in the global infrastructure of information and communication technologies (ICTs). These standards enable global communications by ensuring that countries’ ICT networks and devices are speaking the same language.
The second working group, “Data Formats & Machine Learning Technologies”, produces a categorization of Machine Learning algorithms in communication networks, while highlighting the implications of such algorithms for 5G systems. The working group was established during the first meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group “Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G” from 30th January to 2nd February 2018 in Geneva, where Wojciech Samek was elected as chairman.
Wojciech Samek conducts research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Neural Network, Deep Learning, Interpretable Machine Learning and more.
