As part of the Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) Awards 2019, Prof. Dr. Ing. rer. nat. Martin Schell, executive director of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award 2019.
For the third time, the PIC Awards recognize important achievements in advancing photonic integration through platform development, manufacturing, design, packaging and device characterization. The awarding is based on online votings by approximately 900 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the photonics industry. Martin Schell receives the Lifetime Achievement Award. The reasoning states: "Martin has successfully lead several photonic integrated circuits from idea to installation in the field. He always attempts to be a voice of reason when it comes to evaluating various photonic integration approaches and their economic potential."
Since 2014, Martin Schell is executive director at the Fraunhofer HHI and professor for "Optic and Optoelectronic Integration" at the Technische Universität Berlin since 2012. He also is chairman of the OpTecBB (Competence Network for Optical Technologies Berlin Brandenburg), board member of EPIC (European Photonic Industry Consortium) and spokesman of Cluster Optics and Photonics Berlin Brandenburg.
The award ceremony took place on March 26 in Brussels. Further information and all winners can be found here .
