Fraunhofer HHI researcher Dr. Wojciech Samek has been honored twice in recognition of his work and research in the field of Artificial Intelligence - latterly as coeditor of the anthology "Explainable AI: Interpreting, Explaining and Visualizing Deep Learning".
Wojciech Samek, head of the Machine Learning group in the Video Coding and Machine Learning department at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, has been appointed associate editor of the journal "IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems" (IEEE TNNLS). He took up the position on January 1 of this year. The journal publishes scientific papers on the theory, design and use of neural networks and associated learning systems. It has an impact factor of 11.6 and is ranked second in the category for Artificial Intelligence by the Science Citation Index of Thomson Reuters.
In addition, Samek has been selected as a member of the IEEE's Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee (MLSP TC). The MLSP TC works at the interface between theory and application, where it develops novel, theoretically inspired methodologies designed to serve both longstanding and emergent applications in the field of signal processing. The field of MLSP focuses on on-line/adaptive nonlinear signal processing and data-driven learning methods. This encompasses new theoretical frameworks and paradigms for statistical signal processing as well as novel developments in areas specialized in the processing of a variety of signals. The MLSP TC focuses on fostering research in these areas, on applying these new techniques, and on educating the technical community on the latest research developments in these areas.
