November 12, 2019
As part of this year's #Berlin5GWeek from November 4 to 8, 2019, future mobile communications technologies were discussed for the fourth time. For the first time, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) participated with two events in the program initiated by Fraunhofer FOKUS. On the second day, the institute hosted the "AI for 5G & Beyond Day" together with the "ITU-T Focus Group on Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G" (FG-ML5G).
On the second day of the #Berlin5GWeek another widely discussed approach was highlighted with the "AI for 5G & Beyond Day": The influence of machine intelligence on future networks. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning disrupt entire industries, take them to the next level, and increase their impact on the telecommunications sector. AI in the physical and network layer is the pioneer for automatic network configuration, increasing network efficiency and optimizing resources. In the workshop "Machine Learning for 5G and Beyond" organized by the ITU-T FG-ML5G, experts from various industries and academia presented the latest developments in this field. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Slawomir Stanczak, head of the Wireless Communications and Networks department at Fraunhofer HHI, and Dr. Reinhard Scholl from the ITU led through the day. A variety of talks and keynotes from different parts of the AI world and the latest research - from theory to practice - were provided to the guests. The day ended with a thrilling panel discussion held by leading personalities from industry and research, who were asked current questions about AI, future networks and 5G.
Further events at the fourth #Berlin5GWeek were the 5G & Beyond Day, the 3rd Industrial IoT Forum (How TSN, OPC UA and Edge Computing Shape the Future of Industry 4.0 Communications) and the FUSECO Forum (5G Reality Check: State Of Play In 5G Technologies, Applications & How To Start With 5G), both organized and hosted by Fraunhofer FOKUS .
