November 28, 2019
The 4th Fraunhofer-Alumni Summit 2019 focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The central meeting of former Fraunhofer employees was hosted for the first time by the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI under the theme "AI - in the interplay of strategy, security and economy". Similar to previous years, the meeting offered numerous opportunities for exchange between experts from business, research and politics.
The discussions at the event focused on the following questions: "What can, may, must artificial intelligence do?" and "Intelligent algorithms conquer our everyday lives - how do we live with them?”. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wiegand, Director of the Fraunhofer HHI, contributed a lecture on "Machine Learning at Fraunhofer HHI". The program also included other expert lectures, guided tours of the Fraunhofer IPK and HHI, the members' meeting and a panel discussion with distinguished speakers.
Finally, the Summit dinner gave former employees, visiting scientists, doctoral and fellowship students of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and students from cooperating universities the opportunity to exchange ideas, continue debates and make new contacts.
About the Fraunhofer-Alumni e. V.
The young Fraunhofer-Alumni Association can look back on three dynamic years, in which approximately 650 members have already benefited from the interdisciplinary network of experts. This network is also becoming increasingly international: Since the end of November 2017, alumni of the Fraunhofer subsidiaries in Austria, Great Britain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Singapore, Chile and the USA have also been able to become members of the Fraunhofer-Alumni Association.
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft sees its highly qualified scientists as its key source of potential. They play a major role in shaping its reputation as the leading organization for applied research in Europe. The Alumni e. V. offers experts, who have left the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a platform and support to successfully continue their own career path, for example through the association's "Career Portal".
Former Fraunhofer-employees have the opportunity within the association to exchange ideas about their interest in trend-setting innovations, their passion for challenges and their enthusiasm for successful implementations in an economic environment. In addition to invitations to exclusive and subject-specific alumni and Fraunhofer events, through the cooperation with "Fraunhofer Venture", members of the association receive regular access to entrepreneurial content on the alumni portal like news from the start-up scene, trends in research, entrepreneurial portraits and much more.
