Pablo Wilke Berenguer, research associate at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, completed his dissertation on "Physical Layer Reliability Aspects in Industrial Optical Wireless Communication" at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) with the final mark summa cum laude, in June 2019.
The examination board of the Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, chaired by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Anatolij Zubow (TU Berlin), consisted of the reviewers Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ronald Freund (TU Berlin/Fraunhofer HHI), PD Dr. rer. nat. Volker Jungnickel (TU Berlin/Fraunhofer HHI) and Prof. Dominic O'Brien (Oxford University).
In his dissertation, Pablo Wilke Berenguer examined the application of optical wireless communication in an industrial environment with the focus on the design and implementation of a reliable physical layer. The characteristics and use of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels in the optical domain as well as the digital equalization of non-linear interferences were the main focus of his research and were incorporated into a real-time demonstrator. The work is publicly available at doi.org/10.14279/depositonce-9257 .
Pablo Wilke Berenguer started his work at Fraunhofer HHI in the department Photonic Networks in 2012. Here, he works on various topics of digital signal processing for fiber-bound wide area networks as well as for wireless optical communication.
