The research project PMSE-xG (Programme Making & Special Events) was successfully completed at the end of March. The project focused on wireless applications for the creative and cultural industries. The results of the individual work packages were presented to a larger audience in a final workshop in the form of various demonstrators.
The PMSE-xG project aimed at the examination of the technological feasibility of future oriented utilization of mobile telecommunications technologies and network infrastructure for production, event and conference technology. Among the questions to be addressed in this respect were the capability of the current mobile wireless technology, as well as which requirements of professional audio and video productions cannot yet be fulfilled by 4G/5G. In addition, new possibilities of multimedia services were discussed.
Fraunhofer HHI and Sennheiser presented a demonstrator that, for the first time, was able to transmit data from a professional wireless microphone using a 4G-like system. In the process, it became possible to demonstrate a one-way latency of 1 ms.
Thanks to the PMSE-xG project, important contributions to the 5G standardization were made. Work will continue seamlessly in the follow-up project LIPS (Live Interactive PMSE Services).
