The embedded systems group (ESG) focuses on research and solutions for embedded multimedia processing. As the development of embedded systems involves the efficient co-design of hardware, software and the overall system architecture the group covers these areas. A broad range of architecture approaches are addressed from hardware accelerated coprocessors up to many-core platforms. The design process is accompanied by design methodologies, such as profiling and simulation environments as well as rapid prototyping platforms, in order to ensure an efficient design. The group focuses on video signal processing algorithms and emerging coding standards developed in the department and uses them in a broad range of application fields such as mobile TV, medical and automotive equipment.
